WIRE ARC ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING
THE OTHER WAY OF AM
This is where classic Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) is put into another dimension: into the third. With the help of a welding head already known in robot technology, generative production is integrated in a parallel kinematic system. Thus, thanks to Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM), metrom is able to enable a 3-dimensional production of metallic materials in machine tools.
This results in completely new manufacturing and repair concepts. This process is to be used as a hybrid production. This means that a following milling process is necessary for the final machining. Our machines are excellently suited for a hybrid manufacturing due to the uniform tool interface.
This production method is particularly interesting in combination with a milling process. Thanks to our single tool holder, we are able to guarantee a quick tool change between welding torch and milling cutter. This opens up innovative manufacturing possibilities.
Thanks to the high mobility of the machine, this additive welding process allows a mobile additive manufacturing. As in the case of the „Mobile Smart Factory„, for example, the machine can be placed in a container and produced on a ship or train. More about the mobile smart factory can be found here.
