We, the METROM company, have been an innovative supplier of CNC machines since the company was founded in 2001. With a strong commitment to research and development, we have continually pushed the boundaries of CNC technology, making us one of the most trusted names in the industry. Recently, our CTO Marcus Witt met with a South Korean delegation at the Technical University Dresden. The reason for this meeting and how it turned out is explained in this article.
A special visit for our P800
Last week, Marcus Witt had the great opportunity to host a delegation from Korea at Technical University Dresden Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Professorship Joining Technology and Assembly. The delegation consisted of Byoung Chul Choi from Daejeon Institute of Science&Technology, Yu Jin Lee and Seok Bong Lee from DaeDeok Net Co.
The group discussed the close partnership of METROM to research and science, and the benefits that this partnership creates for all parties involved. CNC machining is an exciting and constantly changing field, and METROM is at the forefront of this change.
A future planned project was discussed at the hybrid system P800 for WAAM (Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing) and milling and could be illustrated by a welding demonstration of group leader arc processes Tim Ungethüm and his colleague. His team mainly uses welding sources from EWM AG and has equipment for diagnosing arc torch systems that is unique in the world.
Afterwards we continued the interview in Hartmannsdorf and could show the production of mobile machines and contract manufacturing at millfax GmbH on six METROM machines.
How METROMs CNC machines have revolutionized the way of manufacturing
METROMs CNC machines have revolutionized the way manufacturing is done. These machines allow a machining process with up to 7 axis. This means that more complicated parts can be produced with these Pentapod machines. In the past, CNC machines were limited to 3-axis machining, which made them unable to produce certain parts. The special of these machines are the movement of the spindle with five ball screws.
This gives the customer a high degree of flexibility with regard to the workpiece geometry to be machined and, at the same time, high machining dynamics. The spindle can be tilted up to 90 degrees on one side. With a rotary table, the machine is thus able to machine a component from all sides.
But that is not all. We have adapted to the high-tech times, so that our CNC machine is able to produce additive plastic or metal components. The 3D printing tools are stationed in the machine. Therefore, the machine can work hybrid: Machining and additive manufacturing in one machine!
The benefits of partnering with METROM for CNC machining
Partnering with METROM for CNC machining has many benefits. Firstly, the machines are of the highest quality and have a long lifespan. This is due to the use of only the best materials and components, as well as the strictest quality control measures.
Secondly, the machines are very user-friendly and easy to operate. This is thanks to the clear and concise operating manuals, as well as the excellent customer service and support that METROM provides.
Thirdly, partnering with METROM gives you access to the latest CNC machining technology and advances. This is because METROM is constantly investing in research and development, to ensure that its machines are always at the cutting edge of CNC technology.
Fourthly, METROM offers very competitive unique CNC machines in terms of sustainability and economy (low maintenance). This is because the company manufactures its own machines, so there are no middlemen involved.
Finally, METROM CNC machines are backed by a comprehensive warranty and service package. This gives you peace of mind, knowing that you are covered in the unlikely event that something goes wrong.
The future of CNC machines and METROM’s role in this industry
The future of CNC machines appears to be in jeopardy due to the rapid growth of additive manufacturing. That is why we, as machine tool builders, see a need for rapid adaptation and optimization of conventional milling machines.
For us, this adaptation is to turn milling machines into hybrid machines that can both mill and 3D print. The reason for this is that additive manufacturing is growing at a much faster pace than CNC machining, and it is slowly becoming the preferred method for manufacturing parts.
However, CNC machining still has some advantages over additive manufacturing, such as the ability to produce parts with tighter tolerances and a smoother surface finish. Therefore, we believe that CNC machining will continue to play a role in the manufacturing industry, albeit a smaller one.
METROM is at the forefront of this industry, with its groundbreaking CNC machines that are capable of both machining and additive manufacturing. We believe that this hybrid approach is the future of CNC machining, and we are committed to leading the way in this exciting new field.
Conclusion
To conclude, the visit was a great and unique opportunity to have an intensive exchange about research and development of additive and subtractive manufacturing with METROMs CNC machines. The feedback about our Pentapod machine was quite positive and confirms us to continue this new way of hybrid CNC manufacturing.
The future of manufacturing is called hybrid – a mix of CNC machining and additive manufacturing. METROM is one of the few CNC companies worldwide that has taken the way in this exciting new field, with its innovative CNC machines that are capable of machining and 3D printing with five axis.
