CNC Machining

without limits

Thanks to our mobile CNC machine series (PM-Series) we are able to machine very large components by milling and 3D printing. This machine was designed so that the strut kinematics with the icosahedron frame is detached from the supporting surface. This allows the machine to be positioned anywhere on the component to be machined. With this machine, machining centers similar machining accuracies are achieved while maintaining flexibility.

Steps of

on-site process

Mobile CNC machining is a process that is very efficient in terms of repair or overhaul of very large components. Dismantling large defective parts, shipping and repair time can be a significant cost and time commitment for the operator of the equipment. Likewise, the remanufacturing of such components is also very costly. This workflow of on-site machining is intended to help you make your decision.

In the first step for on-site processing, your precise description of the requirements is of great importance. We analyze your component and the feasibility with our expert team of sales, design engineer, CNC machinist and CAM programmer. Accessibility, material to be machined, machine positioning, geometry to be machined and environmental conditions are examined. If the analysis is positive, the details for the next steps (time, transport and costs) will be discussed.

On-Site Machining pre-work

Now the transport of the machine is prepared. Our mobile CNC machine PM-Series was designed for optimal transport. Thereby the machines can be transported by air freight in an AMJ container or truck. Logically, the control cabinet, the necessary cabling and the machine frame are also transported.

On-Site machine transport by truck

For mobile processing at your location we need for unloading the machine, a forklift truck with extended forks with a loading capacity of 8t or an overhead crane with a load capacity of at least 5t. Also an electric connection with an operating voltage of 400V, a frequency of 50Hz, a connected load of 32kVA and a fuse protection of 63A are necessary. Last but not least, an air pressure supply of 6 bar and, if necessary, a network connection for remote maintenance.

On-Site machine with 5 axes

After all previous steps have been successfully completed, CNC machining can be performed. The CNC machinist will take care of the complete machining. The part is measured with the help of a laser scanner. This allows us to achieve high machining precision. If continuous machining is not possible in one place, help is needed to move the machine or the component. After the component has been successfully milled or additively processed, the machine is dismantled again and used for the

What our

customers say

The milling center from METROM is an optimal addition to our Center for Generative Joining. The additively manufactured components here can be machined downstream by the METROM system. Thus, SLV Halle GmbH can map the entire additive-subtractive process chain of 3D machining.

Prof. Steffen Keitel | CEO SLV Halle GmbH

Bionic Production has a strong innovative cooperation partner in METROM. Their Pentapod machine tool proves through our Mobile Smart Factory that hybrid manufacturing is reality – machining and 3D printing in one machine.

Daniel Beck | CEO Bionic Production GmbH

For the Hybrid Manufacturing department of the BTU Cottbus – Senftenberg, METROM represents a forward-looking project partner within the WI+R alliance. METROM with its unique CNC machines forms the basis for one of the most flexible and sustainable repair factories worldwide.

Prof. Sebastian Härtel | BTU Cottbus

We successfully cooperate with METROM in joint research projects. We are enthusiastically using a Pentapod system from METROM. Especially the possibility of hybrid component production by means of SEAM 3D printing and machining in one system expands the range of applications enormously.

Dr. Martin Kausch | Fraunhofer IWU

Together with METROM, we see ourselves not only as innovators in our industry, but rather as future makers with a pioneering role. We highly appreciate the technical know-how and the partnership-based cooperation and look forward to further exciting projects.

Sebastian Bibrack | OSCAR PLT GmbH

Even for the most difficult special solutions and machining tasks, METROM finds effective creative solutions and simple machines. Whether for machining castings, hybrid additive laser integration, tool repair, and so on. Our experience with the fast 7 axis METROM P1000 machining center is very positive!
